Keys. Laptop. Badge. These were the three items Claude Hogan was unsuspectingly ordered to hand over the day he was placed on administrative leave.
This came as a shock to Hogan, who was the supervisor for a student athletic development program and has worked at the Lansing School District, or LSD, since 2015. All he was told was that he had breached a policy.
Representatives from each Lansing’s High Schools kitchen staff gathered on Nov. 7 to take part in practicing new dishes that will be part of a bigger “One Table” menu. As a result of student feedback, the district aims to provide more diverse food options, including vegan qualities.
The Potter Zoo opened its 31st annual Wonderland of Lights. Family and friends came out to enjoy the lights, music and Christmas festivities throughout the zoo. The zoo is home to more than 30 animals that people were able to see in the decorative lights. The event was sponsored by 26 local companies in the Lansing area.
his year, administrators of Lansing Community College aimed to do something about that need for its students. LCC realized that some of its students were experiencing food insecurity, so it created “pop-up pantries” for its students. According to studies from 2022 from the Greater Lansing Food Bank, more than one in six people in mid-Michigan face food insecurity, and about 92,000 residents lack consistent access to food.
Two protests simultaneously occurred at Michigan’s capitol building on Nov. 8. The east side of the building hosted Michigan’s March for Life Rally, a pro-life event hosted by the Right to Life of Michigan, while the west side hosted The Rent is Too Damn High, who advocated for passage of the state House’s Renters’ Bill of Rights and an increase to the state budget for social housing aid.

The senior discovery group at the Allen Neighborhood Center boasts “pretty good coffee and great conversation” as a way for senior community members to connect socially and learn something new each week.
Families from all over the Lansing area packed the streets of Downtown Lansing for Halloween weekend as Trick-or-Treat on the Square returned. More than 30 local businesses new and old participated in this year’s event.
Halloween is known for many things: costumes, candy and, this year, dog treats. Preuss Pets hosted their annual dog trick-or-treating event on Oct. 27, which was the first time the event has been held since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.
