DeWitt schools’ proposal comes to a vote

DeWitt schoolsWhen Dr. Shanna Spickard became DeWitt schools superintendent in May, the district’s $66 million bond proposal was already on the to-do list. On Nov. 2, DeWitt school district voters will decide on a $66 million bond issue that would address aged building systems, updating educational technology, and improving athletics arts and extracurriculars. A renewal, the 6-year proposal would maintain current taxing levels. Even before Dr. Shanna Spickard became superintendent in May, the proposal was on its way to time he ballot. Language was approved in June.

Ingham’s fifth re-audit again confirms result of never-ending 2020 election

The 2020 General Election seems to be never-ending for for Ingham County Officials. On Oct. 8, the Michigan Auditor General’s Office notified several Michigan counties, including Ingham County, that they would have to re-audit the 2020 General Election results. The results have been confirmed — again. This marks the fifth time Ingham County’s election results have been evaluated.

Ingham adopts new commission district map

Ingham CountyThis is the map of 15 districts adopted by the Ingham County Commission in October, 2021. After weeks of meetings, the Ingham County Apportionment Commission has chosen a new map for commission districts. The map, proposed by Ingham County Clerk Barb Byrum, was adopted by the Commission at its Oct. 8 meeting. The map increases Ingham County’s commissioner count from 14 to 15.

Absentee voting increases Mason turnout

Absentee voting might increase voter turnout in Mason’s November election, says Clerk Sarah Jarvis. On Nov. 2, residents of Mason will vote on the Park, Trailway, and Pathway Millage proposal. Jarvis said absentee voting boosts turnout for smaller elections, such as this. The City of Mason has a Permanent Absent Voter List, which allows people to automatically receive absentee ballot applications for every election. 

East Lansing clerk sets up campus desk to register MSU voters

EAST LANSING – Instead of waiting for students to come to elections, the East Lansing city clerk is bringing elections to the students. On Monday, Clerk Jennifer Shuster opened a satellite office on the ground floor of Brody Hall, home to the popular Brody Square cafeteria. The goal is for students to register in time for the city council election on Nov. 2.
