DeWitt Charter Township is located within Clinton County in mid-Michigan. Settled in 1836, DeWitt has a population of 12,143 as of the 2000 census and is served by five school districts. The township is managed by supervisor Rick Galardi, who was elected in 2000, and a township board of trustees.

DeWitt is a city in DeWitt Township that lies on the Looking Glass River, a tributary of the Grand River. Settled in 1833, DeWitt’s population grew from a village status to become an official city in 1965. As of the 2000 census, the population was 4,702 people. DeWitt has a six-person city council to oversee the city’s public affairs, and James Rundborg has served as the mayor since 2007.
