The East Lansing Public Schools sinking fund millage and operating millage were passed after the Michigan midterm election Nov. 6, securing the district’s funding for the next 10 years.

The East Lansing Public Schools sinking fund millage and operating millage were passed after the Michigan midterm election Nov. 6, securing the district’s funding for the next 10 years.
Michigan gubernatorial candidates Democratic Sen. Gretchen Whitmer and Republican Attorney General Bill Schuette had a live televised debate in Detroit on Oct. 24. Students around campus gathered to watch it, and some said they were shocked by some of the comments.
The annual Great Pumpkin Walk took place Tuesday in East Lansing. Families with costumed children from babies to teens went door-to-door to collect candy from local businesses. More than 50 merchants participated in the free two-hour event. As part of the Great Pumpkin Walk, some businesses tried to go beyond the typical trick-or-treating. The Wild Goose Inn held its annual “Land of Oz” and decorated the entire outside of the building with a Wizard of Oz theme. This event leads up to the real night of trick-or-treating in the downtown residential neighborhoods, which will take place 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 31.
You may have heard of Bird, the new electric scooter company that has been taking over East Lansing. More recently, a company called Lime scooters are beginning to join the Birds.
The East Lansing Police and Fire Departments honored a few of their recently promoted employees at the East Lansing City Council meeting on Oct. 16.
A dragon marched in Friday’s Michigan State University homecoming parade, bobbing above handlers from the Chinese Undergraduate Students Association. People lined the streets for the annual parade and, at noon Saturday, about 30,000 extra people were expected for the football game against Northwestern. East Lansing bars, restaurants, hotels and police put on extra people and brought in supplies for the busy weekend.
