From Oct. 11 to Oct. 13, the city of Grand Ledge hosted the 40th annual Color Cruise and Island Festival.

As part of the annual event, Grand Air Aviation, a charter airline based in Abrams Municipal Airport, gave guests a flyover of the city for $20 each.

Grand Ledge Mayor Thomas J. Sowle Jr. has flown around the city in the fall before, although not with Grand Air Aviation.

“I got to see how pretty our city looks just like it is when you drive in,” Sowle said. “I knew where everything was so it was very interesting to see everything from above.”

Amy Hoyes, the executive director of the Grand Ledge Chamber of Commerce, heads the Color Cruise and Island Festival.

“The fact that you can take an airplane ride at a unique time to see the colors and to see the view of the city, it’s such a great deal that they offer that people can fly over the city,” Hoyes said.

This year, due to the weather, flights were called off early for the safety of the passengers. The flyover is expected to be offered again next fall.
