Small towns all across the nation are preparing for Halloween, and Williamston is no different. The whole community, from kids and adults to dogs, can get involved in festivities throughout the month of October.

“We here at the library show Hitchcock movies every Thursday,” said Williamston librarian Micki Magee. “After school on Mondays, we show kid Halloween movies.”

The library already hosted a superhero party, and there’s an upcoming “talk like a pirate day” to get Williamston kids in the Halloween spirit.

Adults are welcome at the library every Thursday throughout the month of October from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. for the showing of Hitchcock movies.

Every year, the kids of Williamston are able to dress up and trick-or-treat downtown. This year’s annual event will be held on Oct. 27 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

This year, the children of Williamston won’t be the only ones getting a special day to trick-or-treat through town.

The Williamston Area Chamber of Commerce will host the first dog trick-or-treating through downtown Williamston from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Oct. 26.

“We’ve had dog parades in this town before,” said Sarah Martin-Fanone, a worker at Barrett’s. “For trick-or-treating, they’ll come through the store and we’ll hand them little bone treats.”

According to the Chamber of Commerce’s Facebook page, a costume contest for dogs will follow the trick-or-treating, in front of City Hall. From 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., residents may enter their dogs into the contest for $5. The contest was made possible by Joey’s Pet Outfitters, a local pet store.

“We’re putting bags together,” said Krystal Witt of Joey’s Pet Outfitters. “We’re putting samples of dog treats and food in the bags. And we’ll have stuff for cats, too.”

As it does every year, the Sun Theatre is hosting a Halloween-themed event.

This year, the theater is showing the Rocky Horror Picture Show on Oct. 19. You can buy pre-tickets for $15, or on the night of for $20. According to the Sun Theatre Williamston’s Facebook post, there will be a live shadow cast acting out scenes will the movie plays. Additionally, the ticket price includes a prop bag for the show.

Some events are aimed for an adult audience, primarily music lovers.

On Oct. 27, local rock group Handsome Pete is hosting a Halloween Nightmare party upstairs at the Williamston Pub & Grill. There will be specials on drinks for those over the age of 21, a costume contest and music from Handsome Pete.

Another local music group, Krosbys Konspiracy, will be playing at the Williamston Eagles Clubhouse on Oct. 27.

There’s much to do to celebrate Halloween in Williamston for all ages (and dogs).

“We’re excited about Halloween. It’s always a nice time,” said Martin-Fanone.
