On Friday, October 12th, a Michigan State University student was fatally shot at 25 East Apartments. The shooting happened in the early morning hours in front of building seven.

Senior, Eddie Koneczny, said he was up around 2:30 a.m. when he heard gunshots.

“I was up at like 2:30 in the morning, just laying down on my laptop when I heard what I thought was gun shots, but I didn’t know if it was a car crashing or a gun shot,” he said.

Gunshots that killed 22-year-old, Texas native, Isai Berrones, a senior at MSU.

“We are on the third floor of building seven, and it happened right outside of building seven. It started right outside my door by the bike rack, and kind of moved over between our building and another building,” said Koneczny.

The police did make an arrest for the suspect, a 30-year-old Mississippi man, in Grove City, Ohio.

“He was taken into custody on incident and his extradition back to Michigan is pending at this point in time,” said Deputy Police Chief, Steve Gonzalez, of the East Lansing Police Department.

The police want to stress to the residents that are currently living at 25 East apartments that there is no widespread threat to the community.

“The two parties that were involved had a connection, it was not a random act of violence, by any means, so based on all the information, we’ve learned throughout the investigation, we don’t think there should be a threat or a worry to the residents in that area,” said Gonzalez.

Koneczny does say however that himself and his roommates are more cautious.

An identity for the suspect has not been released yet.
