Republican Leonard faces challenge from Democrat Derke in 93rd District race

Republican state Rep. Tom Leonard faces a challenge from Democrat Josh Derke and Libertarian Tyler Palmer in the race for the 93rd House District, which includes Clinton County and part of Gratiot county.

With 27 percent of precincts reporting, Leonard leads Derke 68 percent to 26 percent.

Leonard was elected to the seat in 2012 and re-elected in 2014. He previously was an assistant attorney general and a prosecutor for Genesee County.

Derke is a 2006 Bath High School and 2011 University of Michigan graduate who is pursuing a career as a physician assistant.
