The former Applegate Driving Range in Meridian Township will become a 23-acre park, with the start of construction planned for early 2017 and the debut expected in 2019.
Located in the northern Haslett area off Lake Lansing, Towner Road Park aims to attract as many residents as possible.
“The parks are really designed for everybody in all ages and all abilities, and that’s what we strive for, with the help of 122 design we have been able to achieve what we set out to do,” said Jane Greenway, Senior Parks and Land Management Coordinator. “Mom, Dad, sister, brother, and grandma can all go to the park and there’s something for everyone.”
Towner Park will be another spot in the community for sports teams to play their games, with two universal full-sized fields and two multi-use baseball diamonds to be the bulk of the park. A full perimeter looped pathway, a pavilion, and a playground will also be included.
“I think it’s awesome that a new park is coming,” said TJ Dennis, a Meridian Township resident. “It’s great to have another place to go and workout or enjoy nature, or walk my dog. Being from the country I love to be out in nature, so it’s cool to be able to avoid the city for a little while and come out here and smell the fresh air.”
