Hillbrook Park, at Lake Lansing Road and Montebello Avenue in Haslett, MI, began as a 5.7-acre donation in 1957. The park now consists of 16 acres with a playground, baseball diamond, tennis courts and natural woodland.

Land Management Coordinator Jane Greenway, designer of the renovations, has requested a $40,000 grant from the Michigan Recreation Passport Program for the project. This program is part of the Michigan Department of Natural Resources in which Michigan residents purchase a $10 state park pass, which grants access to the 99 parks and 1,000 boat launches in the state.

The money from this program goes to preserve and protect local parks, trails, and historical and cultural sites, according to it’s website.

The grant application is due April 1 and, if accepted, renovations will begin in the spring of 2013.
